Wedding Drone Video: How to Capture Your Day From Above
A wedding film shot only at eye level misses the scene-setting shots that make it feel like a film: the venue in its landscape, guests gathering in the garden, the couple walking a coastline at golden hour. That's the gap a drone fills — a few minutes of aerial footage woven through the edit changes the whole feel.
When during the day is the drone used?
Usually in short, planned windows: venue establishing shots before guests arrive, the arrival or the outdoor ceremony (from a respectful distance — drones are audible), the group photo from above, and a couple session at sunset. A good pilot plans these windows with your photographer so the drone never intrudes on the quiet moments.
What should you check with the venue?
Ask the venue for permission first — some estates, churches and national-park locations restrict drones entirely, and airspace rules apply everywhere (our guide to Swedish drone laws explains the basics). An experienced wedding pilot will check the airspace at your venue before confirming, and will tell you honestly if the location makes aerial work impossible.
What about weather?
Drones don't fly in rain or strong wind, so agree a plan B up front: can the pilot come the evening before or the morning after for the venue and landscape shots? Is the aerial part refundable if flying is impossible? Get this in writing when you agree the booking.
Should you book a separate drone pilot or a film-and-edit package?
If you already have a videographer, a drone pilot can supply aerial clips for their edit. If you don't, look for creators offering a complete drone + editing package — one person films the aerials and delivers a finished, color-graded wedding film. Compare both kinds of profiles on the drone filming page.
How far in advance should you book?
Swedish wedding season concentrates into a short summer, and the best creators are booked months out. Start looking as soon as the venue is fixed — browse creators across Sweden, check their wedding portfolios and the Verified badge, and agree price and deliverables directly.
